7/2/2023 0 Comments Our dark duet bookOver a 100+ pages into the story, it almost makes those pages feel like an overly drawn out prologue especially since Kate was in Prosperity all that time. I remember reading reviews saying that it took a while for Kate and August to reunite, and it does. It seems these two have decided to join together because of shared common enemy. Apparently whatever theories I had developed about this were grossly incorrect as I seemed to have forgotten the tidbit about how new monsters are created! Lol. Then of course, as teased at the end of This Savage Song, we see that Sloan is still alive and well, and theres a new monster in town, one who just rose and looks like Kate in a lot of ways and goes by the name of Alice. Eventually, we pop back in on August whos still in Verity acting as a sort of police force trying to keep some semblance of order and justice in the city that is being run rampant with monsters. Though one chance encounter with a monster leaves Kate shaken, this monster was different from the usual sort and as you can imagine will be a feat of impossibility to defeat. When we start we join Kate in Prosperity, having left Verity behind, and somehow finds herself working with a group of monster hunters, for monsters are everywhere in this world. It had been awhile since I read This Savage Song, but luckily I found a summary for THAT! Diving back into the series was still a bit hard, but manageable. Picking up my next unfinished duology, I turned to Victoria Schwabs Our Dark Duet which brings a conclusion to the Monsters of Verity duology.

7/2/2023 0 Comments Wonder woman vol 4 godwatchIt remains that Cale was one of the best parts of Rucka's original Wonder Woman run, a scheming, mortal, and highly intellectual new foe for Diana. I could caterwaul about how Greg Rucka's final Wonder Woman collection of this run doesn't really even involve Wonder Woman all that heavily, but I know now some of this is the vagaries of the collection order, to be rectified in the deluxe. Godwatch therefore turns out to be a very Veronica Cale-centered trade, not that there's anything wrong with that. I didn't know Godwatch contained, essentially, a Truth chapter and I didn't miss it in reading Truth, but clearly the proper way to read this story is in the interspersed publication order. 4: Godwatch than it is for those, given that Godwatch ultimately intersects in the present with Wonder Woman Vol. That's a more important point for this present volume, Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Year One, returning them to publication order. It turns out, by the way, that the first Wonder Woman: The Rebirth Deluxe Edition does intersperse the issues of Wonder Woman Vol. They explain how men and women relate and the traps that make us put value in shallow quick self-satisfaction. DeVon and Meagan do not pull any punches when they discuss temptation’s deadly lures. We are built for lasting intimate relationships.Trust needs to grow unencumbered by the blinding physical demands and the shocking detriments of having only physical relationships. There needs to be trust built honestly.DeVon and Meagan took the time to talk about the actual benefits for the mind and soul of waiting. Don’t fall into the traps of thinking celibacy is abnormal. These three tips are crystal clear in the book They still stuck to their principles. In the new book The Wait, DeVon and Meagan give you real life accounts of their journey, relationship and ongoing Christian growth as a couple. Follow with starting a new relationship and wanting to avoid potentially devastating relationship pitfalls, DeVon and Meagan chose to do something almost unheard of in today’s society- abstain from sexuntil they were married. Reason for expecting it to be a general read was mainly the sentence on the cover of the book – "A story of love, hope and how determination can overcome destiny". Personally speaking, I really loved the book and it fared far better than I expected it to be. What seems to be an easy, breezy read in the beginning actually turns out to be an intense and captivating story by the end. The second half of the book very sensitively deals with her anger, fear, pain and her struggle to overcome the odds of her life. Ankita’s life turns topsy-turvy when she is diagnosed with a mental illness. Life is going good till she realizes that God has made some other plans for her. The book starts with her first exposure to college life, her long distance love relationship, her changing personality in an all girls’ college, her encounter with new friends and relationship swings like most of the girls of her age. So, here goes just the brief summary of what this book is all about – It’s is the story of a young gal Ankita Sharma who is confident, smart, ambitious and is moving ahead in her life in the desired direction. As I do with my reviews, I don’t prefer to reveal much of the story or scenes from any book / movie in the interest who are yet to read / watch it. 7/1/2023 0 Comments The once future witchesBut there will be.Īn homage to the indomitable power and persistence of women, The Once and Future Witches reimagines stories of revolution, motherhood, and women's suffrage-the lost ways are calling. If you’ve read the story in ‘The Silmarillion’ and/or ‘Unfinished Tales’, you will find it an easy task to read through the text. Nevertheless, to me it proved to be an opportunity to re-read one of the great stories of the First Age from a fresh perspective – enclosed entirely within the covers of one book accessing a flowing narrative without any interruptions, whilst enjoying Alan Lee’s accompanying artwork. It is a fact though, that some readers were not encouraged by the publication – the reason being that almost three quarters of the text could be found scattered in various other sources, amongst these ‘The Silmarillion’ and ‘Unfinished Tales’. ‘The Children of H úrin’ is one of the oldest narratives in Tolkien’s legendarium, being also one of the three Great Tales of the First Age – along with ‘Beren and L úth ien’ and ‘The Fall of Gondolin’.įirst published as a single book in 2007, Christopher Tolkien provides us with the full tale without any fragmentations to the narrative or accompanying footnotes. 6/30/2023 0 Comments Feathers by thor hansonI read this book when it came out for my weekly pet column: A captivating and beautifully-written exploration of the human fascination with feathers, this book transports readers from mythical associations with the divine to the height of modern-day science and technology. Informed by Hanson's own field experiences from Africa to Antarctica, Feathers: The Evolution of a Natural Miracle deftly traces a history of evolution, fluff, flight, fancy, and function. It goes without saying, the importance and intrigue of feathers is patent. They are at the root of biology's most enduring debate. They silence the flight of owls, give shimmer to hummingbirds, and keep penguins dry below the ice. They've decorated queens, jesters, plague doctors, Aztec priests, and the fabled birds of paradise. They've linked documents from the Constitution to the novels of Jane Austen. They've inspired legends and literature, from Icarus to Shakespeare. Applying the research of paleontologists, ornithologists, biologists, engineers, and even art historians, Hanson asks: What are feathers? How did they evolve? What do they mean to us?Įngineers call feathers the most efficient insulating material ever discovered. In Feathers: The Evolution of a Natural Miracle, biologist Thor Hanson tells a sweeping natural history of feathers, as they've been used to fly, protect, attract, and adorn through time and place. |
